It is no secret that America is suffering from an epidemic of obesity, and the bad habits that lead to overeating and inactivity almost always begin in childhood and adolescence.  The key to a long and healthy life often lies in teaching young people to remain active, and one of the most innovative new programs for helping children enjoy exercise is the WiggleKids Program. Based in Swansea, Massachusetts, WiggleKids eschews the traditional forms of competitive or standards based exercise.  Instead, it allows children to play exciting but freeform games which maximize participation and enjoyment.

WiggleKids was founded by Coach Kimberly Ferrara as a way to help young kids find their own way to enjoy exercise.  After working a traditional sports organization, Coach Kim realized that many of the children didn’t adapt well to formalized sports.  In establishing WiggleKids, Coach Kim felt it was important to invite children to express themselves in their physical activity.  This radical approach to fitness has earned immense gratitude from parents who have witnessed their children become more social, engaged and fit.  The WiggleKids program has helped hundreds of kids of all ages, personality types and fitness levels discover the joy of exercise based games.  WiggleKids also encourages children and adults with developmental disorders and physical impairments to enroll in its classes.

The immense popularity and success of WiggleKids has helped the organization increase its visibility in the local community. As a 501c3 non-profit, WiggleKids is entirely devoted to improving the lives of its enrollees.  The classes, workshops, birthday parties, school events and dance programs are taught by a small team of dedicated coaches.  Almost every dollar that is received is devoted to improving and sustaining the WiggleKids facility and curriculum.

The facility currently has several highly popular classes including:

• Drums Alive
• Jumpin’ Beanz
• Yoga Offered Gently for All Abilities (YOGAA)
• Open Gym
• Radical Reboundin’

While WiggleKids has become an important fixture in the local community, the costs of running such a diverse and robust schedule year round are considerable.  To help pay for operating costs and new scholarships for individual children, schools and organizations in need, the WiggleKids management team has sponsored a fundraising drive on GoFundMe.com.  In return for your assistance in reaching their $25,000 goal, you may receive rewards like a student designed water bottle, recognition on the Gratitude Wall of the facility, recognition on the WiggleKids social media page, or ad space on staff T-shirts.
